Padma award to Badal: Assembly passes resolution thanking Prez

Members of Punjab Assembly today unanimously passed a resolution expressing gratitude to President Pranab Mukherjee for conferring the coveted Padma Vibhushan award on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

In a resolution moved by Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa on the floor of the House, the state assembly felicitated the chief minister.

The resolution said the conferment of prestigious Padma Vibushan award on the most respected Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, by the Hon'ble President of India was "a sheer honor for Punjabiat and all the Punjabis across the globe".

Later, Badal, in his brief address in the Assembly, thanked the President and the Union Government for bestowing this prestigious award on him.
 

He said, "I owe this honour to all the people of Punjab".

The Chief Minister also thanked the members of the House especially the opposition Congress for unanimously passing the resolution.

After the resolution was passed, senior Congress MLA Brahm Mohindra stood up asking the Speaker to pass another resolution expressing solidarity with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who has been summoned as an accused in a coal scam case.

However, Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal did not allow his plea.
