Painter held for series of thefts at houses of AIIMS doctors

Sonu, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur in south Delhi, was arrested from near Aurobindo College in Malviya Nagar yesterday following a specific tip off, police said.

With Sonu's arrest, police claimed to have solved five cases of burglaries in Ansari Nagar, where doctors working at the AIIMS reside, and recovered jewellery and other items worth lakhs of ruppees.

Sonu, who came to Delhi in 2009 from Bijnore in Uttar Pradesh, started working as a painter-cum-electrician in houses at Ansari Nagar and had been missing from the area ever since the burglaries started taking place a few months ago.

Sonu used to target only houses of doctors and the would be either by breaking the locks of main gate or by opening the inter locks by using master keys.

 

After intensive search, police arrested Sonu and recovered gold and silver jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees, two motor cycles, expensive mobile phones, accessories and electronic items from his possession.

While working at the houses, he managed to prepare the duplicate and master keys of the locks.

"During interrogation, the accused also confessed to have abducted the minor daughter of his landlord from Bareilly, UP on the pretext of marriage," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, said.
