Pak army's top brass revamped after new promotions

The Pakistan Army today elevated four Major-Generals to the ranks of Lieutenant-General as part of regular promotions while announcing changes in several other senior positions.

The decision was taken during a high-level promotion board headed by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

The army said those promoted include Major-General Amir Riaz, Major-General Sadiq Ali, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa and Major-General Umar Farooq Durrani.

Bajwa has been serving as Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army's media wing.

The other notable promotion of that of Riaz who was serving as Director General Military Operations (DGMO) since 2013.

Durrani is serving as Vice Chief of General Staff and Sadiq is General Officer commanding Bahawalpur.
 

The army also announced key new appointments after the promotion of new officers.

Lt Gen Hilal Hussain was posted as Commander, Strategic Forces Command, which is responsible for the safety of strategic assets while Bajwa will continue to serve as DG, ISPR.
