Pak, Briton arrested for gold smuggling in Nepal

Two foreigners - a Pakistani and a Briton - have been arrested from the Kathmandu airport when they were trying to smuggle over 2 kg of gold, police said today.

Mohammed Saujat, 45, from Pakistan was arrested by a joint team from Nepal police and Custom Offices with 1.86 kg of illegal gold at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) here yesterday.

He had come from Sharjah, Dubai on an Air Arabia flight yesterday, according to the police.

The gold was hidden in the false bottom of an emergency light and in a cooking plate kept in his handbag.

Likewise, British national of Nepali origin Hom Bahadur Limbu, 50, was arrested with 233.3 gram of illegal gold from the airport yesterday.
 

Limbu, who had arrived at the TIA last evening, was nabbed by the a joint team of the Nepal police and Customs Office with the illegal gold, police said.

Both of them are in custody for investigations, they said.
