A Pakistani court today directed police to file formal charges by May 19 against an FBI agent arrested on anti-terrorism charges over carrying ammunition while trying to board a flight here.
Joel Cox was arrested on Monday at the Jinnah International Airport after authorities recovered 15 bullets and a pistol clip from his possession as he was about to board a domestic flight to Islamabad.
The FBI agent, on a temporary assignment to Pakistan, was released on bail on May 8 at a bail amount of USD 10,000.
Cox was presented before a local court here after which the authorities sought more time to complete their probe.
The court then ordered police to submit the final challan on May 19 and asked Cox to appear before the court in the next hearing.
He is facing charges of violating local anti-terrorism laws that prohibit carrying firearms or ammunition aboard commercial flights and are punishable by a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail.
