A Pakistani man has been sentenced to death for killing his daughter in a case of honour killing in the country's Sindh province.

Allah Dino Loond was arrested for killing his daughter Shahzadi on March 30 last year in remote Nawabshah district.

The district's second additional Sessions Judge Jalaluddin Soomro convicted the man yesterday after trial.

The judge said the charges against the accused stood proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, Dawn reported.

It was not clear what specific reasons that prompted Loond to kill his daughter but honour killing involves charges of having relationship before or after marriage or marrying a man of choice or refusing to marry a man chosen by parents.

Honour killing is common in Pakistan but prosecutions are rare. Some of the cases in remote areas are seldom reported or hushed up at the local level.
