"Pakistan has no title-ship of the land of Gilgat- Baltistan. As per the Constitution of Pakistan it is not a Pak area -- It is a J-K area", Jammu and Kashmir Prabhari (in charge) Prof Jagdish Mukhi told reporters here today.

Responding to a query on reports about the Pak plan to lease out Gilgat-Baltistan to China for 50 years, Mukhi said, "Pakistan does not have ownership over that region".

"We condemn such moves. We want the Centre to take strong steps in this regard. It is a Central subject. They need to intervene", he said.

Lashing out at the J-K Government for `double standards', Mukhi said, "J-K people raise a hue and cry when their land is leased out for any project to the Centre, but keep mum to the fate of Gilgat-Baltistan which is a part of Jammu and Kashmir".

BJP has brought a resolution in this regard, he said, adding that human rights violations are taking place in Gilgat-Baltistan and Central government is silent over it.
