Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan today directed the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers to maintain better coordination with other law enforcing agencies during the holy month of Muharram, which has been marred by sectarian violence in recent years.

Khan issued the direction when he met the new chief of Pakistan Rangers for Punjab province, Maj Gen Khan Tahir Javed Khan.

The Rangers should maintain better coordination and cooperation with law enforcing agencies in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan for law and order during Muharram, Khan said.

He appreciated the services of the Rangers in maintaining border security and law and order in Punjab. He also lauded the role of the Rangers in keeping peace all over Pakistan, said a statement from the Interior Ministry.

Khan said his ministry will extend all possible support in building the capacity of the Rangers and in ensuring a better working environment for the force.
