Pakistani paramilitary Rangers allegedly shot dead an unarmed youth here today after he did not stop his car, sparking an outrage among the residents.

Police officials said that investigations were being conducted into the incident but initial inquiry had shown no criminal record for the dead man nor was he carrying any ammunition or weapons.

"According to the Rangers they signalled Ghulam Haider to stop his car but he did not, over which the officials opened fire at him, killing him on the spot," one official said.

Haider's car consequently collided with a motorcycle, injuring the rider.
