Pak soldier killed as military convoy ambushed

A Pakistani soldier was today killed and two others injured when militants ambushed a military convoy on the outskirts of Pakistan's restive northwestern city of Peshawar.

Militants resorted to heavy firing at one of the vehicles of security forces convoy near Aziz Market on Frontier Road on the border between Peshawar and Khyber Agency.

A soldier was killed in the attack, that left the security forces vehicle badly damaged.

The two injured have been shifted to a hospital here for treatment.

According to security sources, an army convoy was patrolling near Aziz Market when the attack took place following which the army personnel retaliated but the attackers managed to escape.
 

Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and started search operation in neighbouring lawless tribal agencies.

A curfew imposed in the area after security forces targeted a local militant commander and his companions was lifted today.
