The death toll in a suicide attack at a funeral in northwest Pakistan rose to 35 today after seven victims died in hospitals overnight, police said.

Seven persons, who were seriously injured, died in different hospitals in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, police officials said.

Twenty-eight people, including provincial legislator Imran Khan Mohmand, were killed in the attack in Mardan yesterday.

Nearly 50 people are being treated in hospitals in Peshawar and Mardan, the officials said.

The bomber struck when scores of people gathered for the funeral of Haji Abdullah, the owner of a petrol pump who was gunned down by unidentified men on Monday night. Abdullah was known to the legislator.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though police said that the bomber's target was Mohmand, who was elected as an Independent candidate in the May 11 general election, but he later joined Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party.
