Pakistan has plans to increase the production of defence equipment so that it can export the surplus after meeting its needs, the country's minister for defence production has said.

A seminar was organised by Defence Export Promotion Organisation and Center for International Strategic Studies to develop a draft policy framework for promoting public private partnership in the defence industry and export of Pakistani equipment.

"The seminar will keep in view the long-term defence needs of Pakistan as well as needs of the states to which we would like to export our defence equipment," said Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The minister promised to develop a comprehensive defence production and export policy framework to increase the indigenous defence equipment's production and its export.

Pakistan produces several quality weapons and equipment ranging from automatic guns, armored vehicles, tanks to fighter jets.

It is trying to market the defence items and also organises defence expos regularly.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had asked ministry of defence production that it should re-structure the whole domain of defence productions by enhancing public-private partnership.
