Pakistani and US authorities today signed a MoU to digitise the 66-year-old audio archives of Radio Pakistan.
The MoU was inked by Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Director General Samina Pervez, US Embassy Counsellor for Public Affairs Peter Brennan and Internews country representative Charmaine Anderson.
Speaking on the occasion, Brennan said digitisation would help preserve Radio Pakistan's archive for the next generation of citizens.
"This would provide an opportunity for researchers and enthusiasts to know more about their leadership."
He said only a few countries of the world have all the audio records of their history and Pakistan will soon be one of these countries.
The project will initially digitise the first 3,500 hours of audio recordings of Radio Pakistan's archives, including several historically significant voices and important events relating to the country's history.
Initial estimates suggest the project will cost USD 500,000, which is to be provided by the US while manpower and experts in the field will be arranged by PBC.
