Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif today said his country would respond instantly and effectively to borders violations, a day after nine persons were killed in firing by Afghan forces at border villages in Balochistan.
Asif underlined the need to promote mutual cooperation for establishing durable peace, saying Pakistan would continue its sincere efforts for better relations, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
Afghan border forces yesterday opened fire on Pakistani security personnel guarding a census team in a border town of the restive Balochistan province, killing nine people and injuring 45 others, the latest escalation of tensions between the two countries.
Five children and three women were among those killed, while four Frontier Corps personnel are among the 45 injured, officials said.
Asif said Pakistan would respond effectively and instantly to borders violations.
"Pakistan is deeply monitoring its borders situation and is ready to protect its territorial boundaries as well," he said.
The firing by Afghan border forces affected nearly 2,000 people, according to the chief of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan, Muhammad Tariq.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chaman Qaisar Khan said residents of Killi Lucman and Killi Jehangir villages at the border were asked to evacuate after the firing.
