Inspired by Thar desert region, Pakistani fashion designer Fazia Samee has crafted a Kutch hand embroidered garment in homage to her country's shared traditions with India.

The costume is the solitary "totally Indian" design set to be showcased at the 'Pakistan Fashion Show' here as part of the upcoming "Alishan Pakistan' a lifestyle exhibition hosted by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

Beginning September 11, the four day long event, currently in its second edition is expected to see participation by over 250 exhibitors from Pakistan showcasing fashion, textiles, jewelry, accessories, leather, fabric, carpets, furniture, marble and granite, agro products, and services sectors.

Meanwhile Samee, who specialises in embroidery says she has crafted a "very pretty lehenga blouse" for tommorow's fashion show scheduled at the Taj Mahal hotel here.

"Wherever I showcase I make it a point to show at least one piece that pays homage to the land. For my show here I have made a totally Indian lehanga blouse that is inspired by Thar desert. The same desert runs through both our countries and the costume of the desert people is very ethnic and beautiful," says Samee.

Short tunics with ghararas, much of brocades and chiffons in "very detailed and some very exotic" work in jewel toned and understated colours like very deep turquoise in different cuts is what Samee is set to show on stage.

While the fashion show would host a couture collection, Samee says she has brought a whole lot of designs to be showcased at the lifestyle expo itself.

"There will be a lot of luxury pret for the exhibition geared for the upcoming festivals here like Karva Chauth and Diwali. There is a lot of bright and beautiful colours like pinks and fuschias," says Samee.

"I am thrilled to be showing here," says Samee who has previously collaborated with designers like Anamika Khanna, Manish Malhotra and Ritu Kumar among other major fashion designers. She also has clients who "fly in from everywhere" including from India for whom she does customised designs.

"Usually we do a huge repertoire, which include block prints and a lot of fusion wear but 90 per cent of what she does is customised. Recently I designed a 30s theme wedding clothes for an client from Delhi who got married in Bangkok," says the designer.

Umar Sayeed, Warda Saleem, Sania Maskatiya, Maheen Karim, Deepak Perwani are among other designers who are showing at the fashion show.
