A senior Awami League MP and minister of Bangladesh government today accused Pakistan of instigating violence in Bangladesh.
"There is a Pakistani hand in the violence that is going on in Bangladesh. There are religious forces which want our country to be taken back by them (Pakistan)," Suranjit Sengupata, the Awami League MP told reporters here.
Bangladesh has been witnessing violence ever since Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary-General Abdul Quader Mollah was sentenced to life in jail for crimes he committed during the 1971 liberation war earlier this year.
The violence committed by Muslim fundamentalists gave rise to the Shahbag protest-movement which began on February 5, hours after Mollah's sentence was read out.
Hundreds of youngsters staged vigil at the Shahbag Square demanding death penalty for 1971 war criminals.
Vowing to carry on the trial, Sengupta said "they don't want the war criminals to be punished. But the war criminals will be tried as it is our commitment to the people of Bangladesh and to those who have lost their lives for our independence.
