Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Malta to attend the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) later this week.

The Foreign Office said that November 27-29 summit was important as the programme includes two retreat sessions that would discuss violent extremism and radicalism, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and migration.

A special session will be dedicated to climate change, which will issue the leaders' statement on climate action.

The leaders will also elect the new Secretary General of CHOGM for the next four year term.

Sharif will also attend a Banquet hosted by the British Queen and another banquet by the Prime Minister of Malta.

Besides attending the two-day Commonwealth meeting, he will also meet with several world leaders, on the sidelines of the Summit to discuss bilateral and global issues with them.

CHOGM is held after every two years and its theme for this year's meeting is 'Adding Global Value'.

Pakistan is one of the eight founding members of the Commonwealth.
