The long-serving marketing director of Pakistan's Dawn Group of Newspapers, Masood Hamid, has died under mysterious circumstances in Karachi.

Some people found the body of Hamid in his car in phase eight of Defence Housing Authority yesterday, said senior police official Tariq Dharejo.

"Whoever killed him with a single shot to the head left the murder weapon on the seat of the car which is strange," he said.

Hamid was associated with the Dawn Group for the past 28 years and was a former secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society.

The Dawn Group of Newspapers is one of the oldest media groups in Pakistan owned by the well-known Haroon family.
