Pakistani singer Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan along with Indian musicians Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan and Ustad Nishat Khan are participating in a festival of classical music here.

The two-day festival, "Bhilwara Sur Sangam", which culminates on April 6 is in its third edition this year.

Previous editions have featured legendary artists including Pt Jasraj, N Rajam, Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, Pt Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and Ustad Rashid Khan.

"We see this as our small contribution to future generations who have little exposure to the heritage of India. By reinforcing the values of classical traditions through this musical programme, we wish to infuse in the younger generation an appreciation and respect for our heritage," says Ravi Jhunjhunwala, Chairman, LNJ Bhilwara Group, which is organising the festival.

The extravaganza is set to begin with a vocal performance by Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan today followed by jugalbandi of shehnai and sitar by Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan and Ustad Nishat Khan and culminate with Gaansaraswati Kishori Amonkar.

"While Indian music is well acknowledged across the globe, this is often neglected in India. By contributing in our own small way we also wish to send a message that our glorious musical traditions need to be celebrated," he said.
