A 30-year-old Pakistani man has been convicted in the US for staging the murder of his wife with his American girlfriend in 2011.

Kashif Parvaiz faces life in prison after a New Jersey jury's verdict yesterday for planning the killing of his wife Nazish Norrani, 27, with his girlfriend.

The shooting occurred in August, 2011 when Parvaiz and his wife were walking with their one-year-old son in a New Jersey suburb.

Noorani was killed, Parvaiz was wounded and the boy was unharmed in the shooting. The couple's other son was with family members in the house, New York Daily News reported.

Parvaiz first told police that his family had been attacked by a group of men who called them terrorists and suggested that it was a hate crime, prosecutors said. Noorani was originally from Karachi, Pakistan.

Parvaiz was convicted yesterday of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, endangering the welfare of a child, child abuse, hindering apprehension by lying to police and weapons charges.

The convict's American girlfriend Antoinette Stephen pleaded guilty to murder and other offences and testified against Parvaiz. She faces up to 30 years in prison.

"Nothing will ever restore Nazish to her family. As her two young children grow up, they will never have their mother by their side. Her family, and most especially her siblings, will never see her again," Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said in a statement.
