Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today inaugurated the first Medical College, started under the Scheduled Caste Department, with majority of seats reserved for the Backward Classes.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandy said, by starting a Medical College under SC department, Kerala has become a model for the country.
The objective of the government was to have medical colleges in all the 14 districts, he said. Works for 11 medical colleges in different parts of the state was progressing, he said.

For the first two years, the college would function from the facilities of district hospitals and classes for the first batch of students started this month.
