Japanese consumer electronics major Panasonic, which is strengthening its R&D functions as part of its localisation drive, would establish design division in Bangalore by April 2017 in partnership with Tata Elxsi.
The company will establish the India R&D Centre in its appliances company India consisting of two technical divisions in Bangalore in April 2017 in partnership with Tata Elxsi, the company said in a statement.
The centre would cater its global markets besides India and Japan, it added.

It further added:" Through this division it will develop technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics applicable to appliance products not only for India but also for Japan and global markets."
Panasonic, which aims to expand its appliances business here by accelerating local production and sales activities, had started local production in 1990 with rice cookers, TVs from 1996 and airconditioners from 2013 to address the growing demand in the market.
