Panchayat clerk arrested for graft

A senior clerk with a village panchayat here has been arrested by the Thane unit of ACB on alleged charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2000.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thane ACB Sanjay Mohite the clerk, Harishchandra K Ghatge of Asangaon Village Panchayat in Sahapur was last evening trapped by sleuths of ACB accepting the bribe money from the complainant.

He further said the clerk had made this demand for issuing a NOC to the complainant for issue of tourist permit.

The complainant had made an application for tourist permit to the village grampanchayat and the alleged accused made the demand for issuing the same.
 

The aggrieved applicant then lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of the ACB which laid a trap last evening and nabbed him, a release said.

An offence under sections 7,12,13(1),(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988, has been registered against the accused with the local police station.
