Panchayat elections: 1 shot dead, two injured

A 20-year-old boy was shot dead over alleged party enmity during an election for gram pradhan post in Gohatiya in Kotwali Jaithera village in the district, police said today.

According to police, the victim, identified as Nafis, was shot dead yesterday over party rivalry.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection. The accused have been identified but police chose not to disclose the details. However, no arrests have been made yet.

In a separate incident of firing, two persons identified as Kahmir Singh and Dileep Kumar were shot in Pipehara village in Kotwali Jaithera yesterday.

An FIR was lodged in this connection following which a case has been filed under IPC section 307 (Attempt to Murder). Both the injured have been admitted to a hospital.
 

However, no arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile, Shishupal Singh Yadav, former MLA and district president (Congress) blamed the police for its failure to curb such incidents when preventive action could have been taken in advance.

Due to a number of such incidents over election enmity, there is tension in the village and police force has been deployed.
