Panchayat elections: 5 injured in post poll skirmishes

At least five persons, including a candidate for pradhan post, were injured today in skirmishes between supporters of gram panchayat election candidates here, a day after polling took place in the district.

In one incident, two persons, Satish and Rinkoo, both residents of Nagla Mohan Kotwali village, were injured when supporters of a candidate opened fire. Both have been admitted to a hospital and are in a critical condition.

In another incident, Rajesh Devi and Ram Kishor were injured when violence erupted between supporters of two rival candidates, police said.

Meanwhile, Deepak Kumar, a candidate for pradhan post, was severely injured after he received bullet injuries.
 

No arrests have been made so far, a police official said, adding that the matter is being probed.
