Panchayat elections to be held in April next: J&K CM

Vowing to empower Panchayat setup in the state on the pattern Panchayat Raj Institute (PRI) in India, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today said Panchayat elections would be held in April.

Asking people to strength the PRI in the state, Sayeed further said that efforts are on to hold elections to Municipal corporations and local bodies and empower Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations on the pattern of Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC).

"The election to Panchayat are being held in April (next year). We all should work to strengthen Panacyat set. We should empower Sarpanch", Sayeed said.

"We will empower them. We will empower them as per Pachayat Raj Institution in the country. We will delegate powers to them at district level, tehsil level and block level as the PRI in the country. They will have rights", Sayeed said.
 

"Municipal Corporations at Jammu and Srinagar will be given right on the pattern of the Delhi Municpal Corporation", he said.

Sayeed said that PDP joined BJP to start a chapter of the peace and development in the Jammu and Kashmir.
