A panchayat executive officer in Kesanapalli village in east Godavari district was today arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 30,000 from a contractor for clearing the pending bills, police said.
Superintendent of Police Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Meka Sudhakar told PTI that the officer had demanded an amount of Rs 50,000 from the contractor for clearing bills amounting to Rs 15 lakhs. However, the amount was later scaled down to Rs 30,000.
The contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB who laid a trap and arrested the official.
The accused will be tomorrow produced before the court at Vijayawada, the SP said.
