Panchayat Secy arrested taking Rs 49k bribe from Sarpanch

A Panchayat secretary was today arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Baran, from his office while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 49,000 from the Sarpanch of his own own gram panchayat.

Shetan Singh, Secretary, Dara Gram Panchayat in Atru Tehsil of the district, was arrested from his office while he was accepting the bribe from Sarpanch, Sunita and her husband Inder Kumar, Neeraj Gupta, Circle in charge, ACB, Baran said.

He said Singh had demanded the bribe for sanctioning a bill amount Rs 3.5 lakhs meant for cement concrete road construction works in the area.

Sunita and her husband lodged a complaint in this connection on Wednesday, he said, adding a raid was conducted today to arrest the secretary red-handed.
 

The panchayat Secretary demanded the bribe amount claiming 8 per cent of the total billing amount would go to senior officers while 6 per cent to the staffers, CI Neeraj said.

He said an investigation into the involvement of other officials and staffers in the matter is underway.

The accused would be produced before the ACB court in Kota tomorrow.
