A Jammu and Kashmir Assembly panel today recommended that compensation be given to people whose land was acquired by the police department for establishment of Commando Training Centre in Pulwama district of Kashmir Valley.

The Committee, which met under the Chairmanship of MLA Ashok Kumar here, discussed and examined the petition filed by residents of Khanibugh Lethpora village seeking compensation for their land.

The Committee asked the officials to assess the land compensation at the village and settle the issue within two months under intimation to the Assembly Secretariat.

The Panel asked revenue and police authorities to settle the issue jointly so that the owners get compensation in a time-bound manner.

As soon as the revenue authorities furnish the assessments, they would be forwarded to the quarter concerned for immediate release of compensation in favour of the land owners, Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Deepak Kumar assured the Committee.

Senior officers of Revenue, Police and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
