House Panel seeks public views on suburban train service

The views submitted to the committee will form part of the records and will be treated as strictly confidential

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways has sought suggestions from public on the scope of improving services concerning security of women passengers in suburban trains.

The committee, headed DMK MP T R Baalu, is examining the subject "Suburban Train Services of Indian Railways, with particular emphasis on security of women passengers" for presenting a report in the Parliament.

Suburban train is a very vital service provided by the Railways. The subject involves issues relating to the nature of suburban services provided, scope of further improvement of these services, problems faced by commuters in suburban trains and passenger security, with special emphasis on women passengers.

Keeping in view the significance of the subject, the parliamentary committee has decided to invite views from public including experts, organisations, individuals on the subject before preparing the report.

The views submitted to the committee will form part of the records and will be treated as strictly confidential and will not be circulated to anyone, the committee said in a release.
