Pangolin rescued in Assam

A pangolin was rescued by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau here today and three persons were arrested in connection with it, sources in the body said.

The anteater was rescued from Maligaon area of the city during a joint operation of the police and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, the sourcessaid.

The three persons, who hail from Dalgaon in Darrang district, had purchased the animal for Rs 1.5 lakh and were planning to sell the scaly mammal for Rs 40 lakh.

Pangolin, a scaly anteater, is a highly endangered animal in the country and is among the most hunted and trafficked one in the world. Their scales are used in traditional medicine, while their meat which is considered a delicacy in certain countries.
