Panguni Uthiram festival from April 7

The Panguni Uthiram Festival at Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy temple,the third abode of Lord Muruga, here, will begin with the hoisting of flag (Thirukodi) on April 7.

The silver chariot festival will be held on April 12,followed by regular car festival the next day, a temple release said.

Panguni Uthiram is a major festival of this temple, apart from Thaipoosam festival,attracting over five lakh devotees from all over Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Devotees would observe fast and eat meals only once a day during the festival.

"Holy water from Kodumudi would be brought for special abhishekam to the main deity during the festival.Idol of Lord Muruga would be taken around the hills on the ten days in various vahanas.The celestial wedding of Lord Muruga with his consorts would take place on April 12," the release said.
 

The temple authorities have made arrangements for cultural programmes and discourses during the festival.
