Panic gripped a posh locality in the city after a panther was spotted on Thursday.

The movement of the panther was captured in a CCTV camera install in a house at Takhteshahi Road near JLN Marg, police said.

The panther is being traced with the help of drone cameras.

A forest official said the panther was last spotted at SMS School.

"The search operation is on," the official added.

A police officer said cages had been placed near the school to trap the panther.

"We have advised the school administration to keep the school closed tomorrow. Residents have also been advised to stay alert and careful," the officer added.

Police and Forest Department teams are camping in the area.

People in the locality stayed indoor after the animal was spotted.

The panther is believed to have come from the Jhalana forest area, situated nearly 3-4 km away from the locality.

It is believed that the animal entered the city on Wednesday night.
