Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur's theatre comeback with his one-act play "Dopehri" today received a thundering response at the ongoing 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
"Dopheri", a novella written and enacted by Kapur with the help of lights and music, is set in the streets of Lucknow where sits the haveli of an old lonely woman, Amma Bi.
The powerful narration transports us through her journey from loneliness to self discovery.

The stage beautifully presents the mundane life of Amma Bi, whose husband is no more and her son has migrated to the US with his family. A dried up tree in one corner is juxtaposed with a beautiful lamp at the opposite end, and a wooden, rocking chair at the centre of the stage.
The various moods in the narration were shown with different lighting, according to the varying moods of the story.
A National School of Drama graduate, Kapur and his wife Supriya Pathak are setting up their own production house, Theatron, with "Dopehri" as their first production.
Kapur has directed a number of plays, of which some noted ones are "Kanak Di Balli", "Doll's House - A Story by Katherine Mansfield", "Alberts Bridge" and "Panchvan Savaar".
