A panther today got its head trapped in a water pot in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, in an ordeal lasting for four hours, following which it was rescued by forest officials.

The panther, in a bid to drink water, had put its head into an aluminum pot or chari but it got stuck as the vessel had a narrow opening.

"The sub-adult panther, aged about 3 years, wiggled a lot and made efforts to get his head out but all attempts failed," District Forest Officer (Rajsamand) Kapil Chandrawal told PTI over phone.

"On receiving information by locals, our team reached the place and shifted him to an enclosure where he was tranquilised and his head was freed," the DFO added.

The animal was tranquilised at about 3 PM and he was recovering, he said, adding, "After the panther is fully recovered, he will be set free in a dense forest area."

The incident occurred in Sadulkheda village which is nearly 20 km away from a sanctuary area and the panther probably strayed and entered the village to drink water, he said.
