In an effort to preserve the cultural and religious heritage of Kashmiri Pandits, Panun Kashmir today launched an initiative for social reconstruction of the of the displaced community.

"We have launched the initiative 'Prearana' with an aim to preserve the traditions, culture and religious heritage of the community, the outfit's chairman Ajay Chrungoo said.

Raising concern over the declining population of the community, Chrungoo said the initiative will also sensitise the community about the importance of having three children.

On the growing practice of organising extravagant marriage ceremonies in the community, Chungroo said they set a bad precedent and create a wedge between the weaker and well to do sections of the society.

"The need is to situate the rituals and traditions in real aesthetic sense that is economical and continues the culture and civilisation of the community," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, social activist Kulsi Pandita said, "The practice of serving liquor and alcohol in marriage ceremonies is in no way related to the ritual tradition and is is corruption of the original traditions that is taking the community towards the cesspool of degradation," he said.
