Expelled RJD MP Pappu Yadav today sought the Centre's intervention in ensuring action against the alleged sand mafia in Bihar.

Raising the issue in Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, he said appropriate action should be initiated immediately against the sand mafia in the state and labourers working there should be tasked to run the sand quarries.

"The Centre must intervene in removing the sand mafia. It is a major issue confronting the state and I demand immediate action against those involved in illegal activities," Yadav said.

He said thousands of daily wage workers were rendered jobless in the last few months due to arbitrary action of the sand mafia.

Earlier this month, Bihar's main opposition party RJD had blamed the "faulty" sand mining policy of the state government for the "crisis" of sand and rendering thousands of labourers jobless.
