Amid speculation that the Defence Ministry has expressed reservations on briefing lawmakers on surgical strikes across LoC, the Parliamentary panel on Defence has changed the subject from cross-border raids to electronic voting facility for armed forces personnel for its next meeting.
Earlier, the standing committee was to meet on October 14 to get a "Briefing by the representatives of the Ministry of Defence on surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC)".
Now, as per the latest circular sent to members, the panel will hear officials of the Defence Ministry, the Law Ministry and the Election Commission "on the status of implementation of E Postal Ballot System".
Earlier, the committee was to meet on October 6, but the meeting was postponed till October 14.
The earlier decision of the committee to take up the issue of surgical strikes came against the backdrop of demands that the government should present proof about the cross-LoC raids to counter the smear campaign by Pakistan.
The demand has triggered a raging debate on whether the proof should be provided or not.
The BJP and experts are against disclosing details of the operation by the Special Forces. But Opposition believes video proof will help counter Pakistan's claim that there was no strike by Indian Army across LoC.
