A Parliamentary panel has lauded the Coal Ministry for successful auction of coal blocks and garnering Rs 2.09 lakh crore from the mines' sale.
"The Committee are happy to observe the earnest efforts made by the Ministry of Coal consequent to the Supreme Court judgement cancelling allocation of 204 coal blocks out of the 218 blocks allocated since 1993 with the enactment of Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015," the Standing Committee on Coal and Steel said in report tabled in Parliament today.
"The Committee, therefore, put on record their appreciation for the endeavours made by the Ministry of Coal in this regard with the reported estimated amount of revenue likely to be raised in respect of 33 coal blocks already auctioned standing at Rs 2,09,740.25 crore," it said.
The report further said the Committee trusts that the ministry will continue the good work to achieve the various targets set within time lines, in particular the momentous milestone set for a projection of coal production of one billion tonnes by 2019-20.
