A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources arrived here today on a three-day visit to assess the issues concerning flood management, and relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by last year's deluge.

"During its stay in Kashmir, members of the panel, headed by MP Hukum Singh, would review the progress of comprehensive plan for flood management on River Jhelum Phase-I with the state government officials," an official spokesman said.

He said the 31-member panel would also review flood management and flood forecasting, disaster management initiatives, ground water scenario, command area development and water management projects in the state.

The members would also undertake field visits to various flood-affected areas in Srinagar, besides on-the-spot review of works pertaining to flood protection along river Jhelum and various flood-spill channels in the Valley, the spokesman said.
