Paradip Port Trust handled 42.50 million tons of cargo till October 31 this fiscal as compared to 40.27 million tons duringthe corresponding period last year, a source said.
"Thisisanincreaseof5.54 per centoverthetraffic handledduringcorrespondingperiodofpreviousyear," an official source said.
The port handled 6.44 million tonnes of cargo during October 2015 as compared to 5.92million tonnes during the correspondingmonthofthe previousyear,showing a growth of 8.64 per cent, the source said.

In the current fiscal upto October 2015, thermal coal traffic has exhibited a growth of 5.50 per cent.
Similarly,coking coal traffic increased 7.71 per cent and other cargo traffic grew by 18.59 per cent compared to the sameperiodofpreviousyear.
Stating that Paradip Port has retained the second position in terms of cargo handled among all major ports till October 2015, the official source pointed out that a record quantity of 2.06 million tonnes of thermal coal was handledat MechanizedCoalHandlingPlantduringOctober2015, surpassing thepreviousrecordof2.02 million tons handled during May 2015.
