A Paraguayan national was apprehended at the Cochin airport for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine worth Rs 4 crore, the CISF said today.

Alexis R Fernadez (30) was subjected to pat-down search after the security personnel detected some padding under his clothes during frisking last night.

"The detailed frisking of the Paraguayan man led to the recovery of 3.6 kg of drugs strapped to his body in plastic pouches, shaped like cricket pads. He was handed over to the anti-narcotics sleuths," a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson said.

The man was supposed to travel to Bengaluru after he arrived in India from Sao Paulo in Brazil via Dubai, he said.

The estimated value of the drugs, identified as cocaine, is about Rs 4 crore, the spokesperson added.
