Paramilitary troops today conducted flag marches in various parts of the city to infuse a sense of security among the people ahead of the anniversary of Operation Bluestar to be observed on June 6.

"Since clashes have been witnessed at Golden Temple in 2014 and 2015 between Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force and radicals, the government is taking no chances this time, an official spokesman said here.

Six companies (100 personnel per company) of paramilitary forces and 10 of anti-riot police (ARP) have already reached Amritsar, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, SGPC is making extra efforts to ensure that no clashes take place inside the shrine this time, a SGPC spokesman said.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar had assured that they will not allow anybody to disturb the atmosphere inside the shrine.

He appealed various Sikh religious organisations to maintain sanctity of the shrine on June 6.

The radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa will be taking out a 'parade', terming it as a "genocide remembrance" exercise on June 3. It has already given a call of 'Amritsar Bandh' on June 6.

Police commissioner Amar Singh Chahal instructed security forces to stay alert and not indulge in any action till ordered to do so.
