Punjab's Paramveer Singh Bajwa and Zeel Desai claimed the singles titles in boys and girls sections respectively of the YMCA-TTT ITF Juniors tennis tournament here today.
Sixth seed Bajwa had an easy time in disposing off Maharashtra's Rian Pandole 6-2 6-3 while top seed Zeel was stretched a bit by sixth seed Shivani Amineni in the tie break second set before winning at 6-3, 7-6(4).
In the first set, Bajwa had breaks in the third and seventh games and then held his own in eighth for the set. Bajwa went a step further in the second set with two breaks of Pandole for a 3-1 lead and then 4-1. Pandole found his rhythm in between and narrowed the lead to 3-4 but Bajwa was too good as he quickly adjusted and closed the match.
On the other hand, Zeel had little difficulty in the first set and led 5-2 before going into the lead. However, the second set was a different story as Amineni matched Zeel 4-4. At this stage, Zeel was under pressure and was broken in the 12th game. However, Zeel displayed superior tennis in winning the tie break and the match.
