The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, headed by Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra, will soon pay a visit to Dunlop India Ltd's Sahaganj unit on January five to explore options of revival.
"The committee will visit the factory as part of its fact-finding review of West Bengals's rubber and tyre industry," Mitra told PTI.
The committee also wants to find out what is hindering Dunlop's production when other tyre companies in the country are on an expansion mode.
Mitra already held a discussion with the Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitely.
"We will also consider revival plans, if any," he said.
Dunlop's Sahaganj unit comes under the Hooghly parliamentary constituency from where Mitra had contested and promised during his election campaign that he would take steps for revival of Dunlop.
Both the plants of Dunlop - Sahagunj in Bengal and Ambattur, near Chennai - are without any production. The Ruia Group, led by Mr Pawan Kumar Ruia, took control of DIL in 2005 with liabilities in excess of Rs 650 crore.
Dunlop's Sahagunj has 189 acres of land including the factory and estate.
Ruia is contesting winding up petition.
