Defence minister Manohar Parrikar today said people should imbibe the real meaning of 'Vande Mataram'.
He was addressing public here after mass singing of the national song.

"I am here to say Vande Mataram. Maharana Pratap, Bhagat Singh or other martyrs laid their lives for the nation by saying these two words. Today, when we say Vande Mataram, we remember our martyrs who made supreme sacrifice and taught lessons to our enemies who were looking at us with evil eyes," he said.
Parrikar also talked about Delhi pollution, stressing that there is an need to protect the nation, environment and economy.
Parrikar also pointed out at the pollution in Delhi and said that efforts are needed to clean the air.
"When I was coming today, it was difficult to leave because the pollution was high. Political pollution remains high there but I am not here to talk about political pollution. The air has become much polluted in Delhi and we need to protect the nation, environment and economy," he said.
The event was organised at Fatehsagar Pal which was participated by more than 50,000 people including students in large number.
