Parsekar says he paid 'bribe' for land document 38 years back

Press Trust of India Panaji
Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekarhas said he paid "bribe" to get a land document from district administration about 38 years back, citing the incident to explain the need for SMS-based mutation facility.

The Chief Minister said the incident happened when he was not an MLA and he never got the certified copy of a tenancy order from the office of deputy collector which he wanted.

"I was badly in need of that document. I had decided I would source it from this person only. I did not keep track of how much I must have paid to him," Parsekar said yesterday during a function organised to launch an SMS-based mutation facilitation service in Goa.

The CM said the incident happened much before he became an MLA. However, he also said that despite running from pillar to post, he never got that document.

"After that I became MLA. I have not received the order even till date," he said.

Parsekar said being the CM has not affected his

standing in Mandrem.

"There is no impact on my constituency due to my absence. In fact, I could do a lot of development in my constituency. We could do the road infrastructure and other amenities for the constituency (sic)," he said.

Parsekar said though he could not come to his constituency much often due to the responsibilities warranted by his post, the developmental works here have touched every household.

"My contact with voters was less during this term as I was a minister initially before becoming chief minister. If I had to often come here, I would not have been able to give justice to my departments. I shifted to Panaji. Though I did not reach here my development has reached to every household here," he said.

The CM said a lot of infrastructural work has taken place in Mandrem.

"We constructed Siolim-Chopdem bridge connecting this taluka to the main land. During our tenure, we constructed roads. We consider roads as the mode for the development of particular region," he added.

Parsekar is pitted against Congress' Dayanand Sopte, AAP's Devendra Prabhudesai and MGP's Sridhar Mandrekar.
