A number of part-time teachers today came in front of Sonia Gandhi's cavalcade to highlight their wage-related problems, and squatted on the road following which the Congress president met them and assured that she will look into their grievances.

As soon as Gandhi left a venue after attending meeting of district monitoring and vigilance committee here, a group of part-time teachers jumped infront of her cavalcade to meet her and tell their grievance to her.

When SPG personnel tried to disperse them, they squatted on the road and insisted on meeting Gandhi.

Later, Gandhi came out of her vehicle and took memorandum from the teachers, who alleged that their salaries were decreased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 5,000.

She assured the teachers -- all from Kastruba Gandhi Avasiya Vidyalaya -- of looking into the matter before leaving Rae Bareli.

The Congress president arrived on a two-day visit to her parliamentary constituency here today.
