Partial relief from cold wave conditions in Pb & Hry

People across Punjab and Haryana got partial relief from the chill as day-temperatures rose at most places.

After settling in the range of 10-15 degrees Celsius at most places in the two states for the past about two weeks, the maximum temperatures yesterday witnessed a sudden increase.

Today also, the sun was shining brightly at most places in the two states.

Chandigarh yesterday recorded a maximum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, the MeT Department report said here.

At most other places too, the day-time temperatures settled above normal level including at Ambala (21.2 C), Hisar (20.2 C), Karnal (21 C), Ludhiana (20.4 C), Patiala (20.2 C) and Amritsar (19.9 C).
 

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures in the region today hovered close to normal level.

Chandigarh recorded a low of 7 deg C. The sky was clear during the day today and the residents woke up to a bright sun shine.

Ambala registered a low of 7.4 deg C, Hisar's low settled at 6.4 deg C while Karnal recorded a low of 5.8 deg C.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded near similar minimum temperatures of 6.7 deg C and 6.8 deg C, respectively.

Amritsar, however, had a cold night at 4.1 deg C, even though it was a notch above normal.
