Parts of West Bengal receive heavy rainfall

Parts of western and northern districts of West Bengal received heavy rainfall as other parts of the state remained almost dry, weather officials said today.

Birbhum received 110.8 mm rainfall, while in Asansol the precipitation amounted to 53.6 mm in 24 hours since yesterday morning, it said.

In sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jalpaiguri got 93.7 mm rainfall, while Darjeeling received 39.4 mm rain.

Other parts of the state received little or no rainfall during the period.

Bankura recorded the day's highest temperature in the state at 34.9 degrees Celsius, while Kolkata recorded 34.1 degrees Celsius.

The weatherman has forecast generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain for sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar in the next two days.
 

The southern districts are likely to experience thunderstorm with rain in the next two days, the Met said.
